Frequently Asked Questions About GLS Shipping Labels

What size label does GLS require for shipping?

The official standard size used across the GLS network is the universal A6 format (approximately 4 x 6 inches). If you operate a standard Zebra, Brother, or TSC direct thermal printer, you will need our 102 x 150 mm rolls. For users printing on a Dymo wide-format machine, the correct match is the 104 x 159 mm (S0904980) model. Both dimensions provide ample space for the full GLS barcode layout.

Can I print GLS labels on standard A4 printer sheets?

Yes, this is an excellent option for managing occasional shipments or small daily order volumes without investing in a dedicated label printer. You can download your GLS labels as PDFs and print them using a traditional office laser printer. For the standard A6 layout, our A4 sheet labels in 210 x 99 mm (3 stickers per page) provide a clean, professional solution that eliminates the need to cut sheets with scissors or use clear packing tape.

Why is the automatic GLS scanner rejecting my barcode?

An automatic parcel rejection on GLS conveyor belts is usually caused by fine, vertical white lines running through the printed bars. This indicates that your thermal printhead is dirty from paper dust or adhesive residue. Because GLS scanners require highly precise line structures for rapid routing, clean your printhead regularly with an alcohol wipe. Always apply the label completely flat on a center surface and never wrapped over an edge or fold.
