Which label width do you need?
You want to order labels, but the formats seem endless. 29 mm, 62 mm, 104 mm… what fits your printer? Don’t worry — with a few simple rules you’ll always pick the right size for your Dymo, Brother or Zebra printer.
1. The printer defines the maximum width
Every printer has a fixed maximum label width. That automatically determines which rolls fit.
- Dymo LabelWriter 450: up to ~60 mm wide, e.g. 99012.
- Dymo 4XL: supports up to 104 mm — ideal for shipping (S0904980).
- Brother QL series: typically up to 62 mm (like DK-11209), larger models such as QL-1100 up to 103 mm (DK-11241).
- Zebra desktop: 2-inch (to ±60 mm) and 4-inch (to ±104 mm) models, incl. the popular ZD range.
2. Pick by application
Choose width by what you print:
- Address & returns: 28–36 mm high, 89 mm wide (Dymo 99012 or Brother DK-11201).
- Product / barcodes: 50–62 mm wide — readable and versatile.
- Shipping: 100–104 mm wide (Brother DK-11241, Zebra 800264-605).
3. Quick comparison
| Printer | Width range | Popular formats |
|---|---|---|
| Dymo 450 / 550 | to 60 mm | 99010, 99012, 11354 |
| Dymo 4XL | to 104 mm | S0904980 |
| Brother QL series | to 62 mm | DK-11209, DK-11202 |
| Brother QL-1100 | to 103 mm | DK-11241 |
| Zebra desktop | to 104 mm | 800264-605, 800284-605 |
4. Slightly wider beats too narrow
Wider is fine — you can center content. Too narrow looks cramped and leaves less margin for barcodes. When in doubt, go one size wider.
5. Summary
Use 25–62 mm for small labels (address, product, barcode) and 100–104 mm for shipping. Always verify the exact printer model — that decides what fits. Still unsure? The Brother QL-1100 is a capable all-rounder.
