This wax ribbon is the most widely used and most affordable choice for thermal transfer printing on paper labels. Do you print mostly indoors, on labels that aren't exposed to friction, moisture or chemicals, such as address or shipping labels, warehouse labels or price tags? Then this is exactly what you need. This ribbon measures 110mm x 74m.
The difference with resin or wax/resin ribbons lies in how durable the print is. Wax adheres well to standard and coated paper, but the print is more sensitive to scratching, moisture and heat than with resin. For labels that hang outdoors, come into contact with chemicals, or are wiped frequently, a resin or wax/resin ribbon is a better fit. For most indoor uses, though, wax is more than sufficient and considerably cheaper.
This ribbon is used together with a thermal transfer printer (not a direct thermal printer): the printhead melts the wax coating on the ribbon onto the label, giving a sharp, durable print that doesn't fade the way direct thermal printing often does.

What labels is this wax ribbon suitable for, and what should I avoid?
This wax ribbon is designed for standard and coated paper labels: address labels, warehouse labels, shipping labels, price tags and similar. The wax coating melts at a relatively low temperature, so it prints well on paper without heavily loading the printhead.
What it's not suited for: labels exposed to chemicals, heavy rubbing, moisture or outdoor weather. The print can be damaged by firm rubbing. For those situations, choose a wax/resin or resin ribbon instead.
How many labels can I print with this 74-metre roll?
That depends on your label size, but here's an example calculation: with labels of 50 x 30 mm and a 3 mm gap between labels, each label uses about 33 mm of ribbon. A roll of 74 metres (74,000 mm) then gives roughly 74,000 ÷ 33 ≈ 2,240 labels.
This is a theoretical figure. In practice you lose a small amount of ribbon when loading, calibrating and swapping rolls, so the real number will be somewhat lower. For your own labels, divide the ribbon length in mm by (label length + gap) to get an estimate.
Why is this roll only 74 metres, when 300 and 450 metre rolls also exist?
Shorter ribbon rolls like this one are wound on a smaller core and have a smaller outer diameter, which matches the compact ribbon compartment of desktop label printers. A 300 or 450 metre roll is physically much larger and won't fit in most desktop printers.
If your printer is a larger industrial model that supports longer ribbons, a 300 or 450 metre roll means fewer roll changes. Check your printer's specifications for the maximum ribbon length and outer diameter it supports before ordering a longer roll.
Why does the ribbon need to be at least as wide as my label?
The ribbon needs to cover the full label web, including the backing paper, not just the printed area. If the ribbon is narrower than the label web, part of the printhead runs directly over the backing paper or the uncovered label material.
That causes unnecessary printhead wear over time, and can also cause print-quality issues near the edge of the label. As a rule of thumb, choose a ribbon a few millimetres wider than your full label web.
