This wax/resin ribbon is the middle ground between wax and resin: more resistant to scratches, moisture and light chemicals than a pure wax ribbon, but more affordable than a pure resin ribbon. Not sure whether to choose wax or resin, or want a label that can take a bit more without the higher price of resin? Then this is a good compromise. This ribbon measures 110mm x 74m.
The difference with pure resin lies in the level of protection: wax/resin suits coated paper and some plastics, and withstands light friction and occasional contact with moisture or chemicals. For labels under heavy strain, such as outdoors, on chemical drums, or on pure plastic packaging, pure resin is still the better choice. Is it simple labels without special demands? Then wax is more affordable.
This ribbon is used together with a thermal transfer printer: the printhead melts the wax/resin coating on the ribbon onto the label, giving a sharp print that holds up better to wear than a pure wax ribbon.

When should I choose wax/resin instead of pure wax or pure resin?
Wax/resin is the middle ground: it prints on coated paper and many plastics, and resists light friction and occasional contact with moisture or chemicals, better than wax but at a lower price than pure resin.
Choose it when your labels get handled or lightly rubbed regularly, or when the surface is a coated paper or a plastic that plain wax doesn't hold well on, but the conditions aren't harsh enough to justify the extra cost of resin.
What does 'outside wound' mean, and why does it matter for my printer?
Ribbons can be wound with the ink layer facing outward (ink outside) or inward (ink inside) on the roll. This product is wound ink-outside. Some printers only accept one of the two, others accept both.
If you load a ribbon with the wrong winding direction, the printer either won't print anything or will print a mirrored, unreadable result. Check your printer's manual or the ribbon holder itself before ordering to confirm which winding direction it needs.
What happens to my print if I accidentally use the wrong ribbon type?
Using wax on a label material it doesn't hold well on (glossy coatings, some plastics) can result in a print that smears, flakes off, or never fully transfers in the first place. Using a ribbon that's technically "too good" for your labels, such as resin on plain paper, usually just prints fine, it's simply more expensive than necessary.
The bigger risk is under-matching: a wax or wax/resin print on a surface or in conditions that call for resin can fade, smear or rub off before the label has served its purpose, for example during storage, transport or cleaning.
Why does this ribbon exist in so many different widths and lengths?
Different printers need different ribbon sizes: desktop printers use shorter, narrower rolls on smaller cores, while industrial printers can handle longer, wider rolls. And different label jobs need different widths, from narrow cable labels to wide shipping labels.
Offering the same wax/resin formulation across multiple widths and lengths lets you pick the exact size that matches your printer and label web, instead of paying for unused ribbon width or being stuck with the wrong roll size for your printer.
