Transfer ribbon - wax/resin - 110mm x 450m

This wax/resin ribbon is the middle ground between wax and resin: more resistant to scratches, moisture and light chemicals than a pure wax ribbon, but more affordable than a pure resin ribbon. Not sure whether to choose wax or resin, or want a label that can take a bit more without the higher price of resin? Then this is a good compromise. This ribbon measures 110mm x 450m.

The difference with pure resin lies in the level of protection: wax/resin suits coated paper and some plastics, and withstands light friction and occasional contact with moisture or chemicals. For labels under heavy strain, such as outdoors, on chemical drums, or on pure plastic packaging, pure resin is still the better choice. Is it simple labels without special demands? Then wax is more affordable.

This ribbon is used together with a thermal transfer printer: the printhead melts the wax/resin coating on the ribbon onto the label, giving a sharp print that holds up better to wear than a pure wax ribbon.

Why choose the 450-metre version instead of the 300-metre one?

Both contain the same wax/resin formulation; the difference is purely how much ribbon you get and how often you'll need to swap the roll. At higher print volumes, 450 metres means fewer roll changes, which saves time.

The trade-off is that a 450 metre roll has a larger outer diameter and needs more room in your printer's ribbon compartment. Only choose it if your printer supports that length and diameter, and your print volume actually benefits from the longer roll.

Is wax/resin a good compromise if I'm unsure between wax and resin?

Yes, that's exactly the situation wax/resin is meant for. It handles a wider range of label materials and conditions than plain wax, including coated paper and many plastics, without the extra cost of pure resin.

If your labels only ever touch plain paper indoors, wax alone is still the cheaper choice. If you know your labels face chemicals, heavy wear or long-term outdoor exposure, pure resin remains the safer bet. Wax/resin fits the range in between.

Is this 450-metre roll also suitable for smaller desktop printers?

Usually not directly. This roll has a larger outer diameter than shorter 74 or 110 metre rolls, and compact desktop printers are typically designed with a ribbon compartment sized for those shorter rolls.

If you have a desktop printer, check its specifications for the maximum ribbon roll diameter and length before ordering this size; a 74 or 110 metre wax/resin roll is more likely to be the right fit for that kind of printer.
