Transfer ribbon - resin - 110mm x 450m

This resin ribbon is the most durable choice for thermal transfer printing, meant for labels that take a beating: exposure to chemicals, heat, outdoor weather, friction or moisture. Think of labels on chemical drums, industrial rating plates, outdoor storage, or labels on plastic (polypropylene/polyester) packaging. Then this is the right choice. This ribbon measures 110mm x 450m.

The difference with wax lies in the composition: resin is far more chemical- and heat-resistant, and also adheres well to synthetic (plastic) labels, where wax doesn't hold up well enough. Do you mostly print on plain paper indoors, without any special demands? Then a wax ribbon is more affordable and works just as well.

This ribbon is used together with a thermal transfer printer: the printhead melts the resin coating on the ribbon onto the label. That gives a print that resists scratches, solvents and extreme temperatures, and stays legible and scannable long-term, even under harsh conditions.

Do I need to check the maximum outer diameter my printer allows for a roll this long?

Yes. A 450 metre roll is wound to a larger outer diameter than shorter rolls, and needs enough physical clearance in your printer's ribbon compartment, separately from checking the core diameter and width.

Most desktop printers aren't built for rolls this size; they're more common in larger industrial printers. Check your printer's specifications for the maximum ribbon roll diameter it accepts before ordering a 450 metre roll.

Is a longer roll of ribbon more cost-effective than a shorter one?

Often yes, per metre of ribbon, longer rolls tend to be somewhat more economical, and you spend less time and labour swapping rolls, which matters more at higher print volumes.

That's only worthwhile if your printer supports this length and you actually get through that much ribbon before it degrades or your labelling needs change. For lower, occasional print volumes, a shorter roll that matches your actual usage can be more practical, even at a slightly higher cost per metre.
