This wax ribbon is the most widely used and most affordable choice for thermal transfer printing on paper labels. Do you print mostly indoors, on labels that aren't exposed to friction, moisture or chemicals, such as address or shipping labels, warehouse labels or price tags? Then this is exactly what you need. This ribbon measures 110mm x 450m.
The difference with resin or wax/resin ribbons lies in how durable the print is. Wax adheres well to standard and coated paper, but the print is more sensitive to scratching, moisture and heat than with resin. For labels that hang outdoors, come into contact with chemicals, or are wiped frequently, a resin or wax/resin ribbon is a better fit. For most indoor uses, though, wax is more than sufficient and considerably cheaper.
This ribbon is used together with a thermal transfer printer (not a direct thermal printer): the printhead melts the wax coating on the ribbon onto the label, giving a sharp, durable print that doesn't fade the way direct thermal printing often does.

How many labels can I print with this 450-metre roll?
As an example, using the same calculation as for smaller rolls: with labels of 50 x 30 mm and a 3 mm gap, each label uses about 33 mm of ribbon. A 450 metre roll (450,000 mm) then gives roughly 450,000 ÷ 33 ≈ 13,600 labels.
This is a theoretical figure; loading, calibrating and swapping rolls uses up a small amount of ribbon in practice, so the real count is a bit lower. For your own labels: ribbon length in mm ÷ (label length + gap in mm).
Does the ribbon length have to match the length of my label roll?
No. Ribbon length and label roll length are independent of each other. A 450 metre ribbon can print several rolls of labels if each label roll contains less than 450 metres of material, and conversely a label roll can outlast a shorter ribbon, meaning you'd need to swap the ribbon partway through the label roll.
If you print frequently, it can be convenient to match ribbon length to how many labels you typically use per roll, so you're not left replacing a ribbon and a label roll at awkwardly different times.
Will this 450-metre roll fit any label printer?
No. A roll of this length has a larger outer diameter than shorter rolls, and needs more physical space in the printer's ribbon compartment. Compact desktop printers are often designed for shorter rolls, typically around 74 or 110 metres, and simply don't have room for a 450 metre roll.
Larger professional and industrial printers are usually built to handle these longer rolls, since fewer roll changes matter more at high print volumes. Check your printer's specifications for the maximum supported ribbon length before ordering.
