Frustrating: a label that starts peeling after a few days. The good news — it’s easy to prevent. Here’s why labels sometimes don’t adhere well and how to make them last.
1. Surface matters most
Labels stick best to clean, dry, grease-free surfaces. Dust, oil or moisture can weaken the adhesive. Clean with a mild detergent and let it dry completely before applying.
2. The right adhesive
Not all labels are the same. For temporary use, choose a removable label. For long-term use, permanent labels are a better fit. Pick the adhesive strength for the job: easy removal or extra hold.
3. Temperature & environment
Cold can make adhesive stiff. Apply labels at room temperature (15–25 °C) and avoid direct sunlight during storage to keep the adhesive active.
4. Material choice
Paper labels are economical but not ideal for moisture or cold. Choose plastics like PE or PET for smooth/curved surfaces or chilled/outdoor use.
5. Printer settings
Excessive speed or heat can warp labels so edges lift. Ensure your printer uses the correct media settings — especially with direct thermal or thermal transfer printers.
With the right prep and materials your labels will stay put — for shipping, inventory or product ID.
